I simply love series cooking and baking related. The TV is usually on programme number 100 aka 24Kitchen. I love its festive seasons specials. Can't wait for them to start this year.
I had my weekend off and I was in the festive mood that usually starts in the beginning of December. Christmas songs were playing, I was burning apple and cinnamon scented candles, and there was little ol' me with the cutest ever recipe book that I've been given from my dearest Ina. After the first cup of mulled wine on Friday post work in the town's centre at dawn it was clear that a trip to the supermarket to buy ingredients was due. I was gonna make gingerbread cookies. Apparently they sometimes need a couple of weeks to soften, these turned out pretty soft straight away. Well, as this posts title suggests, my cookies were not gingerbread-like. Laugh with (or at) me, as you read.
In the original recipe half a kilo of flour is needed, along with two eggs, 150 grams of icing sugar, 150 mL of honey, 150 grams of softened butter, 1/4 of a teaspoon of cinnamon and a teaspoon of baking soda. Now this seems uncomplicated enough. I start mixing the butter with the sugar and cinnamon and then I take (what I think is) 500 grams of flour and add it to the mix, slowly mixing I add all the other ingredients. But they just do not bind. Not enough wet ingredients, was my educated guess. Thinking something must be wrong with the recipe I keep on adding an egg, more butter and honey, hoping this will solve my problem. The dough started binding and since it was my first time making gingerbread cookies, I thought yeah, this will work out just fine. I put the dough in the fridge over night, just like the recipe said. The next day I made little balls of dough that I put on the baking tray. I baked them and still they looked semi-fine, until I tasted the first one. They were really good, not at all like gingerbread cookies, but really really good. So here's the recipe for the gingerbread mishap that turned out rather tasty (BF, who's not a gingerbread lover, approved).
Ingredients:
- 1 kilo of flour
- 150 grams icing sugar
- 3 eggs (at room temperature)
- 250 grams of butter (softened at room temperature)
- cca 170 grams honey (maily because I didn't have more)
- a teaspoon od cinnamon
- a teaspoon of baking soda
The how-to:
In a bowl mix together the flour and the baking soda. Then mix the butter with a flat beater attachment on the countertop appliance until soft and smooth after which you add the sugar and cinnamon. Whilst mixing at slow speed add the flour/baking soda mixture, the eggs and then the honey.
The dough should rest for a couple of hours (overnight) in the fridge.
Make little balls, weighing about 15-17 grams each, and put them on the baking tray lined with baking parchment. Bake for 12 minutes at 150 degrees Celsius.
One tray had cookies with strawberry marmelade, one additional minute in the oven, just to make the marmelade crispy.
SLO
Po receptu potrebujem pol kile moke (bele gladke), dve jajci, 150 g sladkorja v prahu, 150 mL medu, 150 g zmehčanega masla, 1/4 žličke cimeta, 1 žlička sode bikarbone. Začenjam z mešanjem masla s sladkorjem in cimetom, nato vzamem (kar se meni zdi) pol kile moke in jo dodam v mešanico, mešam in počasi dodajam ostale sestavine. Dokler nisem prvega poskusila. Bili so 'full dobri', niti približno niso imeli okusa medenjakov, a bili so zeeeelo dobri.
Potrebujem:
- 1 kg bele gladke moke
- 150 g sladkorja v prahu
- 3 jajca (sobna temperatura)
- 250 g masla (zmehčanega na sobni temperaturi)
- cca 170 g medu (ker več enostavno nisem imela)
- žlička cimeta
- žlička sode bikarbone
Kako?
V posodi zmešaj moko in sodo bikarbono.
